The EU DigiTOUR Activities

Shaping the next-gen EU tourism SMEs in the digital realm

The EU DigiTOUR project will design and deliver a transnational, cross-border and cross-ecosystem support scheme to support the European tourism SME capacity building in the field of digital transformation, overcoming the barriers in the adoption of key digital enabling techs, with a view to increase their business growth.

The EU DigiTOUR is strongly based on the concept of capacity building, knowledge sharing and transfer, as well as the idea of hacking solutions according to a cooperative and systemic approach.

The project is structured around 3 GOALS:

GOAL 1: Boosting skills and knowledge transfer activities

Pillar: EU DigiTOUR Transformation Academy


A comprehensive and integrated education & training programme developed around AR/VR, AI, big data, and IoT key enabling digital techs, delivered by a pool of DigitALL Mentors.


Specific Objectives:

  • facilitating knowledge transfer between EU tourism companies lagging
  • behind in terms of digitalisation and innovation, and those more advanced;
  • trainings and peer to peer learning for SMEs and startups in tourism;
  • technology and know-how transfer to SMEs in tourism.

GOAL 2: Incubation, acceleration and scaling-up of tourism digital SMEs and startups

Pillar: The EU DigiTOUR Transformation Programme


A high-growth programme selecting deep-tech tourism startups as champions in the key enabling digital techs


Specific Objectives:

  • improve the digital, smart and innovative capacity of EU tourism startups; 
  • foster innovative solutions for tourism management through enhancing cooperation in the tourism ecosystem (including in public-private partnerships) for the development of new, innovative and smart tourism products, services, skills and new business models.

GOAL 3: Direct financial support for capacity building in digitalisation, innovation and smart tourism to the winners

Pillar: The EU DigiTOUR Hackathons


Hybrid massive local events to promote digital transformation, support and empower the digital ecosystem both at EU and Member States level having EU tourism SMEs and startups as main beneficiaries. 


Specific Objectives:

  • Empower local ecosystem in the digital domain, stimulating cooperation among all the players involved;
  • Supporting the digital transformation of EU tourism SMEs by facilitating the access to funding, enabling the transition and overcoming EU traditional SMEs skeptical and conservative mindset
